fourth plinth
being quintessentially british i'd read the reviews on the fourth plinth finalists this year and assumed brian griffiths' depiction of change since victorian britain and our subsequent saxe-coburg-gotha-windsor heritage would be for me. highlighting contemporary consumerism and capitalism the concept was going to be hit with any nationalist however, the installation alone (an apt but vast battenberg cake compiled of bricks) is, quite frankly, disturbingly ugly. i'm going to have to go with the less offensive britain-shaped mounatain range by Mariele Neudecker juxtaposing territorial space and our majestic landscape, although i think boris will go for cake.
