jonathan saunders
going against the seventies androgynous grain of the last two weeks saunders looked to the femininity of the forties and fifties in erwin blumenfeld's photography and the sporty aesthetic conceived in claire mccardell's designs of that very era. sophisticated and pretty, the prints were paired with an edge which prevented it from becoming too prim or cloying; soft baby blue pencil skirts came with bands of clashing colours 'sprayed' in concentric circles, simple strapped dresses overlayed with sheer white tanks, mesh panels where chiffon silk would be expected and mid-riff baring black shirts teamed with (almost) frou-frou skater skirts. it made for an interesting collection and his return to colour is definitely very welcome.
